Avahanam Na Janami

About the book ‘Avahanam Na Jaanami’ –

The book ‘Avahanam Na Jaanami’ which has been authored by Dr. Aniruddha Dhairyadhar Joshi (Sadguru Aniruddha Bapu), was published on Ramnavmi 1997. It depicts a devotee’s innermost feelings and yearnings in simple, easy and straightforward language. This book portrays the dialogue of a sincere devotee with his Sadguru. In the book, Bapu has presented many questions that arise in the life of a common devotee (shraddhavan).

What Bapu has to say about ‘Avahanam Na Jaanami’ –

Bapu says that this is the voice of a devotee, a devotee who does naamsmaran (recall God’s name in one’s mind), a devotee who worships, a devotee who lives in solitude and likewise who lives amongst people with diligence. This is the yearning of a child, who is trying to take a leap towards his mother. This is every person’s call, coming straight from the heart, from its innermost depth reaching out to the Anant (the eternal, God).

Avahanam Na Jaanami… is a prayer of forgiveness –

Avahanam na jaanami na jaanami tavarchanam |

Poojam chaiva na jaanami kshamyataam parameshwari ||

Mantraheenam kriyaheenam Bhaktiheenam sureshwari |

Yatpoojitam maya devi paripoornam tadastu me ||

(Meaning – I do not know the rites and rituals associated with Karma, I do not even know how to worship you. I cannot even make a proper appeal to you. Please forgive me for that. I can only love you. Please accept my love and incomplete efforts, with love. Grant me gratification by giving a response to my earnest call.)

This book is nothing but this prayer.

The diction used for Aavahanam Na Jaanami –

This book has been written by Bapu in his exquisite diction. Just like the petals of a flower open one after another when a bud blooms into a flower, similarly the mind of the devotee, the chaos in his mind, the love for god in his mind is unraveled slowly. Hence, the reader is hooked on to the book from the very  beginning. One is unable to understand when the earnest call from the book in Bapu’s words combines with their own voice and becomes that of the reader. Bapu has made a conversation with the Sadguru the way any person would have with a very close friend. Therefore, one is also able to understand how exactly the dialogue with the Sadguru is to be had.
